first step are you doing your homework?

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Nearly 50 drug traffickers and counting went behind bars Tuesday, after a new operation in Brunswick County launched a warrant sweep.
Before dawn, officers from agencies all over Brunswick County were given warrants for over 80 drug violators.
Brunswick County was divided into zones so three teams could cuff and transport suspected dealers to jail as part of "Operation First Step."  This is the beginning phase of a campaign led by the Sheriff's Drug Enforcement Unit to combat street level dealing.
"It's a multi-prong attack to deter buyers and to arrest sellers and displace them," said Brunswick County Sheriff Chief John Ingram.
Ingram says over 90% of the violators have been in the system before, and many have pending charges.
Before Tuesday's drug round-up, over 100 illegal drug transactions were caught on tape where violators were trying to sell drugs to undercover agents.
The sheriff plans to carry out a second step in this operation, working with citizens in Brunswick County to prevent illegal drug sales on the streets.
