This is the fifth drug roundup under Sheriff John Ingram in recent months. The target of this operation -- street to mid level dealers.
Officers started at the crack of dawn to fan out across the county. One by one, they made arrests for various drug violations.
"We are not going to give up," said Ingram. "We are going to continue to go after them as long as they continue to engage in this activity."
Deputies say they have worked with officers from the Ocean Isle Police Department on controlled purchases, vehicle stops and home searches.
As a result of the operation, 27 people were taken into custody with a total of 69 controlled substance related charges. Additionally, 19 more controlled substance charges were added to the total for having narcotics, paraphernalia and/or firearms on the person during the arrest.
Two .22 caliber rifles and a .25 caliber handgun were seized from homes of the arrested subjects during the operation. A 1998 Crown Victoria and 1992 Chevrolet Cheyenne pick up truck were taken in as well.
